We collaborated with Director Greg Gray of Romance Films and Joe Public on the Nedbank Discipline film, from the early stages of concept development. The original scope of the music was to create a piece that pushed into an ambient cinematic. What the creative team discovered was that the fast-paced edit needed a driving energy that would bring life to the ‘fitness’ message being delivered. The team worked with ambient textures, electronic layers and dynamic shifts that could subtly follow the characters’ emotional and physical journeys. The result is a score that doesn’t sit in the background – it drives the narrative, shifts with the story, and lands the emotional payoff with full force.

Five Fingers for Marseilles

Pressure Cooker Studios delivered the original score and provided music supervision for Five Fingers for Marseilles. James Matthes collaborated closely with director Michael Matthews to craft a world-class soundtrack rooted in local culture and inspired by the classic Spaghetti Western sound. Critically acclaimed and recently named one of The New York Times’ favourite films since the 2000s, the film blends contemporary African Western storytelling with powerful political themes. In 2024, Beyoncé cited it as a creative influence behind her Grammy-winning album Cowboy Carter, further underscoring its cultural and artistic impact.

Family Full House

CHICKEN LICKEN

Pressure Cooker Studios composed the original score for this bold, comedic Chicken Licken spot, directed by Pete Pohorsky of Plank Films. Part of the Make Your Family Proud campaign, the ad introduces David ‘Legs of Thunder’ Mgijimi, the fastest man in the world, in a playful nod to family pride. Our Afrobeat-inspired track adds a swaggering, retro charm to the film, supporting the voice-over while standing out as a vibrant character in its own right. Director Pete Pohorsky called the score “quirky, retro and timeless”, a perfect sonic companion to Chicken Licken’s award-winning storytelling.

Pressure Cooker Studios handled the entire audio production for Heart of the Hunter, from dialogue, sound design, and foley to the final mix. Our team crafted a rich and immersive sonic experience that drives the suspense and emotional intensity of this high-paced thriller. Directed by SAFTA-winning filmmaker Mandlakayise (Mandla) Dube, Heart of the Hunter is based on the bestselling novel by South African author Deon Meyer. It made history as the first African film to reach No. 1 on Netflix worldwide, not once, but twice. In thriller cinema, audio is central to building atmosphere, sustaining tension, and drawing viewers deep into the story. Our work on Heart of the Hunter plays a critical role in shaping that edge-of-your-seat experience and we’re proud to have contributed to such a landmark African production.

Spanning two floors with 720m2 of dedicated space in the heart of Cape Town’s city centre, our studios are more than just a workplace, they are purpose-built environments designed to nurture creativity and seamless collaboration.

Designed by renowned studio architects Pilchner-Schoustal, every detail has been crafted to meet the evolving demands of music and audio production and post-production.

Our facilities include two Dolby Atmos theatres, a dedicated Foley Stage, control rooms, tracking rooms, and 15 individual composition and audio edit suites.

We haven’t just built a studio, we’ve created a sacred space where talent can flourish.
